Audio System FAQs
Q.How much does a professional audio system cost per room in the UK?
A small huddle or meeting room with a quality ceiling microphone, in-ceiling speakers and a basic DSP typically costs £3,500–£7,000 installed. Mid-size boardrooms with beamforming microphones, a Biamp or Q-SYS DSP and Teams/Zoom integration usually run £8,000–£18,000. Lecture theatres, training suites and divisible auditoriums with networked Dante audio, voice lift and reinforcement systems generally start at £20,000 and can reach £80,000+ depending on scale. Strive AV provides fixed-price quotes after a UK site survey.
Q.Which audio brands and DSP platforms does Strive AV install?
We are vendor-agnostic and design around the right tool for the job. For microphones we deploy Shure (MXA902, MXA920) and Sennheiser TeamConnect ceiling arrays. For DSP and signal management we use Biamp Tesira, QSC Q-SYS Core and Crestron DM. Loudspeaker and amplifier choices typically include QSC, JBL, Genelec, d&b audiotechnik, Tannoy and Bose Professional. We are accredited installers for the major platforms and certify all rooms before handover.
Q.Do I need a DSP for my meeting room or lecture theatre?
Almost certainly yes if you have more than two microphones, multiple speakers, or you need echo cancellation for video conferencing. A DSP (Digital Signal Processor) such as Biamp Tesira or Q-SYS handles automatic mixing, gain sharing, AEC, noise suppression and routing between your room, your VC platform and any audio reinforcement. For larger UK lecture theatres a DSP is essential to maintain intelligibility, manage feedback and meet accessibility standards.
Q.Should I use ceiling microphones or table microphones?
Ceiling microphones (Shure MXA902, MXA920, Sennheiser TCC2) keep tables clear, simplify cleaning and look architecturally tidy — ideal for executive boardrooms, hybrid meeting rooms and clean-build classrooms. Table microphones (Shure MXA310, Sennheiser SLDW) typically deliver slightly higher speech intelligibility and are preferred for high-stakes legal, broadcast or interpretation rooms. We assess room acoustics, ceiling height and use case during the design phase before recommending an approach.
Q.Will the audio system integrate with Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet?
Yes. We design audio systems certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms and Google Meet hardware. The DSP handles AEC, gain and mute behaviour and connects to the room codec or VC compute via USB or Dante AV. We also support BYOD rooms where a guest laptop drives the audio chain. Every install is commissioned with the relevant VC platform so remote and in-room participants get matched levels and natural conversation flow.
Q.What is Dante and do I need networked audio?
Dante is the industry-standard IP audio protocol from Audinate, used to carry hundreds of low-latency audio channels over a standard Ethernet network. For a single meeting room, traditional analogue or USB audio is usually sufficient. For multi-room boardroom complexes, divisible training suites, lecture theatres, broadcast studios and event venues, Dante (or AES67) is the right choice — it simplifies cabling, supports flexible routing and integrates cleanly with Q-SYS, Biamp and Shure equipment.
Q.How long does a UK audio system installation take?
A standard meeting-room audio refresh is typically completed in one to two days, including ceiling microphone install, speaker fitting, DSP configuration, VC integration, RF survey for wireless mics, and a 30-minute user training session. Boardrooms and divisible training rooms usually take three to five days on site. Lecture theatres and large auditoriums are scheduled across one to three weeks depending on rigging, structured cabling and acoustic commissioning. We schedule UK rollouts to minimise disruption.
Q.Do you offer commissioning, support and maintenance contracts?
Yes. Every Strive AV audio install includes professional commissioning — frequency response measurement, AEC tuning, gain staging and intelligibility testing using STIPA where required. We then offer ongoing AV support contracts including remote monitoring via Q-SYS Reflect or Biamp SageVue, planned firmware updates, on-site response across the UK and proactive replacement of consumables such as wireless microphone batteries and capsules.
